Kantipur Report
KATHMANDU, May 12 - Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-N) Chairman Kamal Thapa Monday warned that attempts to put an end to the monarchy in haste without drafting a new constitution might invite a serious repercussion.
Urging not to rush into any decision regarding the king, Thapa warned that the country will face serious consequences if attempts were made to oust the king.
Speaking at a programme organised in the capital today, Thapa, who is also regarded as a close aide of King Gyanendra, said, “The country might plunge into another big crisis if the King is ousted even before writing a first letter of the new constitution.”
Thapa also said that he had already met and suggested CPN-Maoist chairman Prachanda and leaders of other political parties not to take decisions regarding the king’s ouster in haste.
He added that he has not consulted the monarchy’s exit with anybody.
Thapa claimed that the political leaders, in personal meetings with him, accepted the menace after the removal of the King.
He informed that the king himself had claimed that he will not leave the country under any circumstance.
Stating that the new government should be formed on the basis of people’s mandate, Thapa remarked that the country is on the verge of thrusting into ultra-leftist danger.
Thapa, who was also the Home Minister during King Gyanendra’s direct rule, said that he was of the opinion that king’s glory should be maintained though he was not a spokesperson of the monarch.
