POST REPORT
KATHMANDU, Dec 6 - Madhesi People’s Rights Forum-Nepal (MPRF-N)-led by Bhagyanath Prasad Gupta announced Thursday the formation of Broader Madhesi National Front (BMNF) along with three other agitating parties based in Madhes
Those joining hands with the dissident faction of MPRF include Madhesi Loktantrik Morcha, Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha and Dalit Janajati Party.
Speaking at a press conference organized in the capital, Gupta announced the launch of fresh peaceful protests, alleging that the government had failed to respond to three of their key demands -- declaration of republic, fully proportional electoral system, and amendment in interim constitution to ensure federal state structures with rights to autonomy -- even after their seven-day ultimatum.
BMNF has announced mass rallies in Birgunj, Rajbiraj (Saptari), Kerkha (Jhapa), Malangwa (Sarlahi), Bouddha (Kathmandu) and Taulihawa (Kapilbastu) starting Sunday under the first phase of its protest programs. "We will be forced to launch stringent protest programs if the government fails to respond positively to our demands even after the first phase of protest programs," added Gupta.
Meanwhile, MPRF-led by Upendra Yadav and Nepal Sadbhawana Party (NSP)-led by Rajendra Mahato have formed Joint Madhesi Front to develop a working alliance between the two parties in the days to come. They are going to make a formal announcement in this regard in Kathmandu, Friday.
