KATHMANDU, Dec 13 - Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Girija Prasad Koirala is consulting with the party lawmakers representing Madhes region on Madhes crisis.

The NC lawmakers from 20 Terai districts are participating in the meeting at the PM’s official residence in Baluwater, said NC leader Ananda Prasad Dhungana.

Discussions on finding a solution to the Terai problems and the resignation of Madhesi lawmakers including Minister for Science and Technology and senior Nepali Congress (NC) leader Mahanta Thakur were underway, said a Baluwatar source.

Meanwhile, NC leader Dr Ram Baran Yadav today said that the government has been addressing the political issues of Madhes time and again.

Yadav said that a separate party for the Madhes was not needed as the interim constitution has already ensured their demands.

Hinting at the Madhesi lawmakers, who recently tabled their resignations, Yadav, a Madhesi leader himself, alleged that the Madhesi lawmakers were lured by plot of the royalists and the reactionary elements.

Speaking at a press meet in Butwal today, Yadav said that the Madhesi people should be alert with the leaders who have been caught up in the plot hatched by the anti-peace elements.

He also urged everyone to not do politics in the name of the Madhes.

On Tuesday, four Madhesi lawmakers including Minister Thakur had tendered their resignations for to dissociate from the parties to form a separate front to address the Terai problems.

Minister Thakur, UML lawmaker Mahendra Kumar Yadav, Nepal Sadbhavana Party- Anandi Devi lawmaker Hridayesh Tripathi and RPP lawmaker Ram Chandra Raya had resigned from parliament and their respective parties Monday to launch a decisive but peaceful movement in the Terai.

Leaders of the major political parties have voiced concern and are suspicious over the Madhesi leaders’ move.
