TGW - One influential Nepali Congress leader, Khum Bahadur Khadka has categorically stated that the Interim Parliament deserve no right or whatsoever to declare Nepal as a republican state.
Talking to Jan Dharana weekly dated December 13, 2007, Khadka further says that since the General Convention of the Nepali Congress has not provided the needed and the required green signal for such a declaration thus the NC can’t declare a republican order.
“For this, the NC convention must allow the party”, Khadka says.
On yet another question regarding the Maoists demand for the integration of their PLA into the mainstream national Army, Khadka says that “it could well be taken as a grand design of the Maoists to bring about a vertical split in the National Army's rank and file”.
Elaborating what he prefers to call a Maoists’ ploy, Khadka opines that the Maoists want to capture the State structure by creating a rift in the National Army.
“A politically indoctrinated Maoist militia can not and should not be integrated into the National Army”, Khadka adds.
Khum Bahadur Khadka is a NC leader who of late has been favoring the continuation of the Nepalese monarchy unconditionally. Those who are with him were Govinda Raj Joshi, Bijaya Kumar Gacchhedar and former Speaker Tara Nath Rana Bhat.
According to him, the Maoists have so far not abided by what they have committed through various agreements and peace pacts.
