TGW - The spokesperson of the Nepali Congress Party, Mr. Arjun Nar Singh KC has admitted that while his party was a declared monarchist, the Maoists were instead undeclared monarchist.
“The Maoists have been maintaining clandestine links with the Royal Palace, we became monarchists publicly”, he continued.
Mr. K.C was making his views public regarding Prachanda’s fresh remarks on the possible unity among the Maoists’ and the Royalists.
“Our party is totally committed to the conduct of the CA election; the Maoists on the other hand, were hell bent on killing even the prospects of the election”, he continued.
Mr. K.C said these at a program held in Banepa, Kavre District yesterday.
The NC leader, Mr. K.C’s summary admission that his party was a declared monarchist has come close on the heels of his “secret” meeting with his former mentor Surya Bahadur Thapa during the erstwhile Panchayat regime. Those who attended Thapa’s private meeting were Govinda Raj Joshi and his colleagues as well.
Some even say that Mr. Thapa recently invited a select group of the congressmen who were the staunch supporters of the institution of the monarchy. Thus his frank admission gives a new twist to the current politics of this country.
Mr. Jhalnath Khanal, a UML leader considered to be close to the Indian establishment too making his views public on the occasion said that, for the first postponement of the election, the Nepali Congress must be held responsible as it waited for the party to unite and for the second time the Maoists’ created hurdles forwarding the 22-Point demands…we were ready on both the occasions”.
Mr. Khanal is the one who very freshly “avoided” his party’s meetings with the Chinese dignitary Dr. Wang Jiarui for some undeclared reasons.
Aagni Prasad Sapkota- the Maoists’ central committee member sharing the same platform in Banepa expressed that the election is just a means but not the end in itself.
“It is imperative that first the institution of monarchy is abolished and ensure that full proportional system adopted for the CA elections, else there is no possibility of election”, Sapkota added. Mr. Sapkota also blamed the Nepali Congress for being pro-monarchy.
Sapkota’s opinion that the monarchy be abolished has come at a time when his own top-hats have been in an oblique manner supporting the monarchy.
