NEPAL: INDIA PRESUMED AIDING MADHESI DEFENSE ARMY, REPORTS

TGW - Making a grand revelation, “The Sanghu” Vernacular weekly, dated 10 December 2007, says that the “Madhesi Defense Army” constituted recently by none other than the disgruntled faction of the Nepal Sadvawana Party-Mahato, is being funded by the Indian Consulate office in Birganj, Nepal.

The weekly says that the financial support to buy the uniform and conducting various training activities for the Madhesi youths in the defense army is being provided by India’s consulate office in Birganj.

“South-Block- where India’s foreign ministry is situated in New Delhi, is directly behind creating a Madhesi outfit similar to the YCL (Young Communist League) - a Maoist affiliate”, reveals the weekly further.

“The main objective behind creating such an outfit is to destabilize the entire Terai belt and to counter the swelling strength of the Maoists in the country”, adds the weekly.

The “Nepal Weekly”- a Kantipur sister publication in its last issue too had hinted that after the establishment of India’s Consulate Office in Birganj, the Terai is experiencing worst ever violence, which has also broken the age-old communal harmony in between various communities living in Nepal’s Terai belt.
