TGW Analyst - Long time back a world renowned political thinker, Leslie Stephen, had said, “Happy is the nation which has no political philosophy, for such a philosophy is generally the offspring of a recent, or the symptom of an approaching revolution”.
Analysts at the telegrapahnepal.com though appear reluctant to subscribe to the views of Leslie on whether a country should have somene philosophies and by extension political thinkers who could goad the nation, however, what is for sure is that we possess, we presume, more political thinkers and philosophies than is needed for a small country like ours.
What has also been seen in the recent days that Nepal’s ruling elites more often than not, what Berkeley once noticed, have a habit of “kicking up a dust and then complaining that they cannot see?”
We presume that our leaders fit into what Berkeley says. Its further extension would be that it were the leaders who have been creating problems for the country but fail to find the needed and the required solutions.
In the midst of countless philosophies and political thinkers prevailing at the moment in Nepal, we have one such personality who both in nature and content is close to Machiavelli. He is Surya Bahadur Thapa-considered to be the number one conspiratorial brain of this country.
His connections with the Nepal’s Royal Palace and the Delhi Durbar is not a secret?
Some three decades back it was talked in the academic circle that late King Mahendra had a personal and strictly private notebook wherein he had “suggested” his heir apparent, late King Birendra, that “should the monarchy face a formidable threat to its existence, seek the support and abide by the instructions of Surya Bahadur Thapa”.
Analysts claim that the wise counsel of Thapa is yet valid. The now sidelined King perhaps in the recent days and weeks is supposed to have sought the support of Thapa.
Rumors in Kathmandu say that the sudden dash of this conspiratorial brain to Prime Minister Koirala’s residence one fine morning recently (our own sleuths though are sure of the exact date, however, they tend to presume it should have been November 30th-the day the Chinese high level delegation landed in Kathmandu), does tell that Thapa-the President of Rastriya Janashakti Party(RJP) is still kicking and alive in Nepal’s turbulent politics that is there for all to see and feel.
Reports say that Thapa “received” a telephonic call (not sure from where it was?) on that fateful morning and instantly “proceeded” towards Koirala’s Palace in Baluatar.
When Thapa reached Koirala, the latter was having a bed-rest. Whether he was in Oxygen mask or not could not be known.
However, what was known to this website is that Thapa hurled at Koirala a volley of questions and sought answers to his piercing six questions indeed.
The questions as compiled by this website are as follows:
You failed in providing a viable outlet to the current political problems and thus you have miserably failed to lead the country. Why?
Why you Mr. Koirala having a track record of some six decades in the service of democracy, have ultimately handed over the country to the fold of the Left forces? Why you did it?
Why you are not doing any thing concrete when the nationalism aspect has been threatened which you are well aware of? Why you have neglected this serious issue?
Why you attempted to annoy India in the recent days and weeks? Tell me why?
Tell me, Mr. Koirala how are your advisors? Which and what sort of political advisors are dictating their own terms to you? If you go on “consulting” such advisors, can you imagine where you will land ultimately? Have you become so dependent on them that you have to abide by their preferred dictates?
Neither the Left forces nor we at the “liberal” camp agree to your recent political overtures. Why you have drifted from your original stance? Tell me why?
So these were the questions posed to Koirala by Thapa.
Listening to Thapa’s somewhat disturbing questions, Koirala for a while became restive. However, he had to say this only to Thapa:
“I trusted the Maoists more than what were desired and needed. In the recent days the Maoists have ditched me”.
Thus the meet ended but this secret meet has some significant “political connotations”.
To recall, this meet took place close on the heels of yet another previous meet organized by Thapa at his “private” residence. This “special” meet was largely attended by those Nepali Congress men who have in the recent past been demanding that Nepal’s Royal institution must be preserved.
The moot question but then yet remains: “will Koirala go by what has been advised by Thapa?”
Be that as it may, Koirala-Thapa increasing “nexus” must not come in a good taste for the Left forces that have begun searching a suitable alternative to Koirala. The problem is that the Left forces can’t replace Koirala so easily as the interim constitution now in force demands a two third majority for his ouster. Hmmm………Hmmmm…..
